Under the umbrella of its expansive social responsibility and sustainability program Kuwait, 30 October 2023: Burgan Bank recently concluded its sponsorship of the 5th annual exhibition organized by Expo 965 Team for Heritage Crafts and Talented Kuwaitis. This sponsorship comes as part of the Bank’s comprehensive social responsibility and sustainability program, in addition to its continuous support of all efforts that aim to preserve the Kuwaiti identity and national cultural heritage, whether in traditional handcrafts, performative arts, or even the local dialect. With this sponsorship, the Bank also upholds its committed adherence to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices across all efforts. On this occasion, Ms. Hessa Hussain Al-Najadah, Senior Manager - Corporate and CSR Communications at Burgan Bank, said: “We are very proud of our partnership with the Expo 965 Team for Heritage Crafts Exhibitions and Talented Kuwaitis, which underscores our commitment to supporting all efforts that aim to preserve our Kuwaiti cultural and popular heritage by passing it on to the younger generations through education and engaging activities.” Al-Najadah added that the exhibition, which ran for five days, saw the participation of 175 Kuwaiti members of the Expo 965 Team who all joined to showcase their antiques and handmade crafts and products, all of which masterfully captured the essence of the Kuwaiti identity and heritage; in addition to a select group of private museum owners, historians, and Kuwaiti heritage researchers.
Besides the displayed artwork and handcrafts, the event offered several workshops, including “Jewelry Mold-Making”, “Application of Thermal Enamel Colors on Red Copper Sheets”, “The Role of the Youth Public Authority in Caring for Youth” and “Craft Industries at the Heart of Industrial Creativity”, which were presented by Prof. Ali Al-Najadah, as well as “Capsules from the History of Kuwait”, which was delivered by the researcher Fahad Al-Shamali. Other workshops and activities included “Tradition Kuwaiti Toy Production”, “Fundamentals and Skills of Rosary Making”, “Utilizing Kuwaiti Heritage and Handicrafts in Development Projects”, and many more. Furthermore, the exhibition offered its visitors various other lectures and discussions, including “The Role of Volunteer Groups in the Preservation and Diffusion of the Kuwaiti Heritage” and “The Kuwaiti Dialect: Between Authenticity and Modernity”, delivered by the researcher Hussein Al-Qattan in the traditional Kuwaiti dialect. It also hosted a number of discussion forums, such as the 3rd Youth Forum on Heritage and Handicrafts titled “The Sustainability of Heritage and Handcrafts in Kuwait: Between Authenticity and Innovation”, in addition to a dedicated forum for differently abled craftspeople, another about educational districts and supervisors, and the exhibition’s closing event, the 4th Gulf Forum for Heritage and Handicrafts. It serves to note that Burgan Bank continues to offer unwavering support to the Expo 965 Team on their yearlong efforts in organizing notable events and exhibitions, ensuring wider exposure to Kuwait’s rich cultural heritage and more success in preserving it.
