Kuwait, 21 November 2023: Kuwait International Bank (KIB) continues to support the “Let’s Be Aware” (Diraya) banking awareness campaign, launched by the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) in collaboration with Kuwait Banking Association. The Bank aims to promote the objectives of its social program to spread banking awareness and financial literacy among all segments of the community.
As part of its support to the campaign, KIB seeks to continue raising awareness on all the different aspects of banking, including the different kinds and uses of credit cards provided by the Bank. It aims to achieve this goal by engaging with its community through its various media and social media platforms.
Within this context, Deema Al-Mulifi, Assistant General Manager of the Operations Department at KIB, praised the campaign's objectives and the positive impact it has had on various segments of customers to date. She added: “It is our duty to educate community members on the uses of banking cards, as they are considered one of the most important products, and financial instruments issued by banks for payments and purchases – online or direct points of sale – or cash withdrawals. Banking cards are safe and practical for cashless transactions. They can also be used for overseas purchases without having to exchange currencies.”
Al-Mulifi further noted that there are various credit card types, the most popular of which is the debit card, which is directly linked to its holder’s bank account balance and would draw directly from available funds. Credit cards, on the other hand, allow cardholders to make purchases and later repay the money borrowed from the Bank in a flexible manner.
Al-Mulifi added: “At KIB, our range of premium credit cards, including Visa Infinite, Visa Signature and Visa Platinum, come with an exclusive suite of benefits and rewards whether used locally or abroad. They provide customers with numerous benefits including free travel insurance, access to airport lounges, exclusive dining offers and experiences in Kuwait and abroad, car rental, concierge services and more. All cards at KIB are secured with a smart chip and are accepted at over 30 million Visa outlets worldwide.”
Referring to the Bank’s cashback program for credit and prepaid cards, Al-Mulifi stated that KIB offers customers up to 5% cashback on purchases, with the added advantage of obtaining and redeeming cashback points worth up to a maximum of KD 600 per month on eligible transactions conducted using KIB’s credit and prepaid cards, whether inside Kuwait or abroad. She further noted that all KIB cardholders can enjoy the cashback benefit when spending a minimum of KD 100, adding that the percentage and amount of cashback depend on the card type.
Al-Mulifi also mentioned that other types of credit cards include the prepaid card, which is mostly used for a safer online payment, since holders receive it unloaded and are able to recharge it, through direct transfer from their account balance, with the amount to be used for the purchase only.
Speaking about the Bank’s ISO-certified data security systems, Al-Mulifi reaffirmed that KIB employs state-of-the-art technology to protect personal data and privacy. The Bank’s Information Security, Privacy and Anti-Fraud Department has been awarded for securing its Information Technology infrastructure and digital services. She also reiterated that the bank provides a 24/7 fraud monitoring system for added customer security and safer banking transactions.
Concluding her statement, Al-Mulifi affirmed KIB’s commitment to playing an active role in educating its community on all the different and various aspects of their banking behavior, explaining that it is an integral component of the Bank’s multi-faceted social responsibility program. KIB has always been keen to launch, or actively participate and sponsor, initiatives that aim to spread financial awareness on a wider scale, including the “Diraya” program.
